I love reading (Dostoevsky, Hemingway, Atwood, and Garcia Marquez are my favorites), traveling, and my boyfriend Carlos. I used to enjoy art and poetry but it's been awhile since I've been involved in it. I'd like to become active again. I also love the outdoors -- mild activities like hiking and picnicking, not skiing and rock-climbing.

School(s) Attended

I earned a journalism degree in 2004 from Ohio University; currently I am a Master's student in Latin American Studies at the University of Chicago.

Place(s) Worked

In college I participated in the AFL-CIO's Union Summer program, working with a home health care workers' union in Newark, NJ. I spent two years (2004-2006) in the Dominican Republic as a Peace Corps volunteer in health education. I've worked on several publications, in different capacities: reporter, stringer, copy reader, editor, designer. I've also held numerous jobs in customer service, waiting tables and answering phones.

Personal Statement

I care about a free and independent press; a truly representative government that recognizes America's diversity and respects the principles of pluralism; the rights of workers to organize and demand better wages and conditions; and responsibility of all people to participate in our communities, to protect our environment, and to consume in a conscientious way.
