July 16, 20112pm - 6pmSaint Sabina Church - McMahon Hall1210 W 78th Place, Chicago, ILDownload the Print FlyerPurpose Over Pain was founded in 2007 by a group of parents who lost their children to gun violence. We are hosting this event to let victims of violence know that we have not forgotten you, or your children. This day is for you to find the services you need, support, relax, de-stress and to meet other parents like yourself. Together we can make it, while making a difference. &nb...
Our Mission
We fight the urge to close down and instead open ourselves to the community.
While violence chose us without notice, we consciously choose to band together and turn our profound and collective pain into a sense of purpose to prevent future violence.
Our Plan
Our intent is to move the public conversation from the sensational "what" happened to a more productive "how" the community can actively care.
By convening a community conversation, we hope to direct resources and attention productively towards solutions.
What We Do
Purpose Over Pain...
- Provides peer support to an all-to-growing network of other survivors of urban violence;
- Seeks to move the public conversation to productive solutions;
- Delivers violence prevention educational programs for at-risk youth;
- Promotes a safe environment by advocating for common-sense gun laws.
